Beery-Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual-Motor Integration, Sixth Edition (BEERY VMI)

Clinical | Educational | Neuropsychology | Academic Functioning

The Beery™ VMI is an easy-to-use and cost-effective screening toolthat measures the extent to which individuals can integrate their visual and motor abilities. It screens for visual-motor deficits that can lead to learning, neuropsychological, and behaviour problems. The Beery™ VMI is available in both a Short Format as well as a Full Format, with the Short Format being used most often with children between the ages of 2 and 7 years. Both the Short and Full Format tests present drawings of geometric forms arranged in order of increasing difficulty that the individual is asked to copy. As a culture-free, non-verbal assessment, the Beery VMI is useful with individuals of diverse environmental, educational and linguistic backgrounds.

The Beery™ VMI is suitable for respondents with diverse environmental, educational, and linguistic backgrounds. The test can be used to help:

  • Identify individuals who may be encountering difficulties in visual-motor integration and to determine the most appropriate course of action.
  • Help parents better understand their child's current level of development using age norm information.
  • Used in the classroom as a screener to identify whether alternativeteaching solutionswould be meaningful.
  • Test the effectiveness of educational and other interventions.
  • Conduct research.

Since this assessment is hand scored, although information obtained from the assessment can be used to compile a report, no electronic report options currently exist.

Although South African research and norms are not yet available for the Beery VMI, JVR Psychometrics welcomes the opportunity to partner with clients in conducting research studies in their organisations.
