Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS)

By asking clients to either endorse pessimistic statements or deny optimistic statements, the Beck Hopelessness Scale® supports early identification and diagnosis of depression, suicidal intent and suicide ideation, by measuring key aspects of hopelessness: feelings about the future, loss of motivation, and expectations.

ASSESSMENT SCALES

The BHS measures three major aspects of hopelessness:
Feelings about the future
Loss of motivation
Future expectations

AREAS OF APPLICATION

The BHS is useful in any setting where it is necessary to assess client’s degree of depression, suicide ideation or suicide intent.

REPORT OPTIONS

  • Interpretive Report: provides the assessment results, interpretation of results and items endorsed by the client from a single administration.
  • Progress Report: provides an overview of change over time by combining candidate results from multiple administrations as well as clinical outcomes.
