JvR Psychometrics is excited to announce that we are now distributing the High-Performance Team Assessment, or HPTA, for short. So why are we distributing this assessment?

With competition within the global economy, there is a growing need for efficiency in the workplace, for companies to meet their projected budgets and realise their strategic objectives in the most effective way possible. And we know that organisations are not run by individuals working in isolation, but rather as groups or teams collaborating towards achieving a common goal. If the team’s collective effort is high, this by far exceeds each individual’s contributions. And that is where the HPTA would come in, by considering both team performance and culture as aspects that can greatly contribute to team effectiveness, and how certain elements of performance and culture can be further developed to enhance the team even more.

There are already team assessments in the market. What makes the HPTA unique?

The HPTA was developed in response to the rapid emergence of team-based work globally. It is based on academic research on thought leadership, with references to The Rocket Model by Gordon Curphy and The Five Dysfunctions of a Team by Patrick Lencioni and more than 25 years of global consulting experience working with high performing and under-performing teams. The HPTA model is unique in that it contains two critical dimensions for effective teamwork, namely a Performance domain and a Culture domain. The Performance dimension identifies factors that impact on the capability of the team to achieve the deliverables and results that they are responsible for and the Culture dimension identifies factors that impact on the team’s standards of behaviour and values that influence how team members collaborate in order to achieve their goals. These two overarching domains are then broken up in 12 sub-domains namely strategy, innovation, accountability, change readiness, results focus and meeting effectiveness from a performance perspective, and are trust, professional conflict, communication, emotional intelligence, collaboration and resilience, from a cultural perspective, thereby providing an all-rounded “snapshot” of the team at that moment in time. This information also allows for an extremely comprehensive report, in that ratings for each item is indicated, theme scores are provided and a clear framework for opportunities to improve is also shared, that fits in clearly with the team’s need, allowing for better buy-in into any development initiatives. The HPTA also does not differentiate between the leaders and their team members in the reports, which do not indicate individual ratings, so considering that confidentiality is assured, team members can feel safe to answer the questionnaire honestly.

How can you access it?

You can contact the JvR Africa Group for a free qualifying webinar, and after completion, we can set you and your team up to complete the assessment, which is online and takes approximately 15 minutes to complete, depending on the team report you require. Once all team members who were requested to complete the assessment have done so, the report will be generated, for you to use with the team to develop an action plan to enhance their effectiveness.

Tell us about the types of reports. What are these, and who will benefit from the results?

Depending on the type of team, there are different forms of the HPTA which can be completed. There is the HPTA Executive which is designed for your senior leadership teams who manage performance and provide the organisation with direction, the HPTA Management designed for your teams within the organisational structure, who are responsible for specific business units or functions. Then for teams who do not necessarily have explicit leadership responsibilities, there is the HPTA Frontline, which is designed for teams that report to a manager but work together based on their complementary skillset. Lastly, there is the HPTA Agile, for more agile teams that may be “leaderless”, but work together to achieve a specific purpose within defined periods of time.
