NEW Adolescent Norm Option for the Basic Traits Inventory (BTI) on JvR OnlineHofmeyr
We are thrilled to announce a new norm option for the BTI on JvR Online – Norms for adolescents (ages 13 to 18 years). The details regarding the psychometric properties for the norms are available in the updated manual on the JvR Online resource centre. The group consists of 865 adolescents, and internal consistency reliability for the five factors was excellent (above .85). The reliability of the subscales reflected those for the other norm groups, and the factor structure demonstrated that the scales of the BTI are interpretable for this norm group. Part of the review included an assessment of the relevance of the items to adolescents, where we asked a group of 15-year-old second-language English-speakers to identify items that they felt were not relevant to them or that they did not understand. The results indicated that there were only minimal impacts, and it was determined that the test could be used as is for adolescents. The authors, Nicola Taylor and Deon de Bruin, will be publishing an article looking at the functioning of the BTI with youth populations in the near future. We would like to thank all of our clients who helped in collecting data for this norm sample, but in particular, Susan Smith and Grethe van Zyl for their invaluable support.
